“Excellent job on developing our website.  You translated high level discussions, thoughts and concepts into the final product, and we are delighted with the result.  We very much appreciated your flair and skill in advising on the content and presentation also.

We frequently are commended on the site by our customers, and no doubt that it has generated additional business for us.”

Information Architecture Design

A visitor well served, is a visitor well-satisfied

Information architecture is the art and science of holding a visitor's hands and showing her around the website. The trick is the visitor must not know she's being led.

A good information architecture is not visible; a bad one is. And that bad one results in lost sales and lost visitor.

A well-organised structure is a welcome asset for any website. And consider this: there is no guarantee that a visitor will enter your website directly from the home page.

The Devil is Really in the Details

Information architecture involves getting a lot of seemingly invisible things right:

  • Navigation
  • Organization
  • Llabeling
  • Search Systems

Information architecture is not limited to one single field but combine elements from many diverse fields such as psychology, graphic user interface design and even library science.

Information architecture involves creating a bunch of smaller goals like "click next page" or "open a particular file" on the website that ultimately leads to the final goal, which is an order placed or mail sent.

Persuasion Architecture

Persuasion architecture, on the other hand, deals with the placement of persuasive elements in key positions on the web page. Its main goals are:

  • Identify the elements need to be placed on a site and web page that'll help in persuading the prospect to take an action
  • Identify and removing elements that can be a distracting the visitor from performing an action that you desire

Persuasion architecture and information architecture are logical and necessary steps in building a website. To sum up the importance of both in a simple manner:

  • Informing: Better the usability and structure of the site, better you'll be able to inform the prospect
  • Persuading: Increased and relevant exposure of persuasive elements and removal of distracting elements better enable to prospect to take an action

Vishal Nayak provides information architecture and persuasion architecture both as stand-alone service and as part of his website design and development services.

Usually, information architecture is done on an EXCEL sheet and sent to client for approval before we begin the actual designing of the website.
